The Worcester Volcano Community Choir started in September 2001 as a project of The Worcester Arts Workshop. This was Hilary’s first choir, and from humble beginnings in the Workshop cafe it has grown in number, confidence and exuberance and now meets in a local parish hall.
Worcester Volcano Community Choir welcomes singers of all abilities, ages and backgrounds regardless of their musical experience or ability. The emphasis is on the sheer joy and diversity of singing, rather than following any particular musical style. The only requisite is an open heart and a desire to sing. Currently we have around 50 members from a wide variety of backgrounds ranging from pensioners and young couples to arts workers, teachers, housewives, students and solicitors.
The choir members learn all their songs by ear without the use of music, so they find they rely on each other to learn the parts together. This creates a real sense of community within the choir as a whole and within the individual parts in particular, as a result individuals quickly build real friendships.
The choir has built up a healthy repertoire of songs from across the world in a wide variety of styles.
The choir perform at local community events including Worcester Skills on Show, ‘Precious Bane’, Worcester Victorian Fair, and Huntingdon Hall Arts Centre, and (below) Droitwich Music Festival
